The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Frustration Regarding Size Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
This online marketplace has updated its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all users about the change.
Digital Channels Backlash
Countless users and merchants have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a different size category versus the original listing as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches other platforms.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.
Size Classification Modifications
Before the change, the measurements included one number and one letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the sizing has been recategorised - such as a large size was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Accounts
One content creator, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, said garments she listed featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she said.
Necessary Adjustments
Another shopper, located in England, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she stated.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million members, with 18 million British users.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices after backlash from users.
